Star Contributor of the Month – Pranjal Goswami

screen-shot-2017-01-09-at-9-54-32-pmWe’re a little behind on recognizing Star Contributors so we’re going catch up for 2016. For November, we’re honoring Pranjal Goswami from Bangalore, India. Pranjal is one of our most gifted and talented community members and it was only in 2016 that we were finally able to get him directly involved with the community. He mentored two students for Google Summer of Code, lending his expertise and graphic design skills to assist in refactoring and re-skinning our web app and also mentoring Adhyan in building out a notifications framework for the web app. He was also chosen to attend the 2016 Google Summer of Code Mentor Summit along with Gaurav. Pranjal will be busy throughout 2017 but we look forward to making him an active contributor to the Apache Fineract community.

Pranjal Goswami – Bangalore, India

Brief Bio (in the words of Pranjal):

Currently working as Head of Product for tnpsuite.com which we ideated during graduation to streamline the process of campus placement drives in India. The platform helps colleges recognise gaps in placements using the student specific analysis.

When not in front of my laptop coding, I like spending time traveling, reading or playing sitar (an Indian classical music instrument)

Relevant Skills & Experience: Full stack developer for three years. Worked on big scale web applications built on Angular JS.

Pranjal’s Impact:

Discovering Mifos

I discovered Mifos through Conflux Technologies. Met Ashok and Nayan while we were working together.

Contributions Made to Date (in Pranjal’s humble words)

My contributions so far have been minuscule. I have helped GSOC students build an actionable notification system and revamp the web app UX.

From Ed: Pranjal in fact was a very hands-on mentor, helping guide two complex projects including coming up with the design for the re-skin.  Both of these projects that Pranjal mentored will soon be shipped to the community.

Current Projects: Currently working on shipping the improved user interface for the Mifos X web application.

Impact on the Poor: I hope to contribute to the best of my abilities in all efforts made to uplift the lives of the underprivileged. It is the aim of my life that I want to make a positive impact on the lives of other people. I make sure I reach there in every step that I take.

What’s Rewarding about Working on Mifos:

The single most rewarding thing is the magnitude of impact that your work at Mifos creates. Every contribution you make is touching so many lives. It gives you satisfaction to be a part of a noble cause.

Top Piece of Advice for Others in the Mifos Community:

Well, I am very new to the community, so I don’t have any advice to share. However, to the new contributors, I would say — communicate more and ask for help, don’t try to battle problems alone. Sometimes, since we are all working remotely, you might feel lonely working on something. It is good to harness the benefits of technology to connect to people.

Interesting fact/tidbit about yourself you’d like to share: I was always good at programming but wanted to pursue something else. In my first year of college I started with graphic design. In my third year, I went to an Deutsche Bank for an internship as an Investment Banker. In my final year, I was seeking an operations job in an FMCG conglomerate. However, life had other plans for me and I became a software engineer. So in short, I had no plans of becoming a software engineer – but then life happened. 🙂
