Educate on the Market Opportunity

Despite the great need for IT services across financial institutions serving the poor, the market is still very young.  We educate both local and global technology support providers on the opportunity to support technology-enabled financial inclusion. We provide partners with a platform, the tools to deploy and extend it, and a searchable directory to help connect with customers seeking technology support.

Promote New Business Models

For our initiative to thrive it requires dynamic new ways for value-driven services to flow throughout the community. We promote various business models that allow local partners to create and capture value as they support and build innovation for users. We licensed Mifos X under the Mozilla Public License 2.o because it was essential for us to maintain the openness of our platform while still giving partners the incentive to innovate. Mifos X and the Community App itself give local organizations,  small and large, a viable opportunity to take a cost-effective solution and deliver range of hosting, implementation, support, and consulting services around it.  The open platform and extensive APIs allow organizations to build and/or integrate their own unique financial inclusion applications for distribution to the sector.

Partner Certification

We maintain a certification program that ensures each Mifos Partner is meeting our bar of excellence that ensures our customers can trust and confide in the quality of the Partners available to them. Certification in our program is based on their level of satisfaction and achievement with customers, their active participation and contribution back to the community, and their ongoing professional development and skillset. Partners earn a range of benefits from their certification. Customers can easily discover their local certified partner in our Directory. We also aim to ensure each partner is deeply aligned with our social mission.

Marketplace for Innovation

The Mifos X platform opens up the potential for us to create entire new economies around developing technology-based solutions for financial inclusion. Not only are we building a marketplace of partners and the various technology and consulting services they offer, we now have a marketplace for new innovation. Any third party is free to build out a new app, a new financial services product or module, even an entirely new solution. Users can come to our community to pick and choose a variety of pluggable modules and apps that cater directly to the services their clients are demanding, via the most affordable delivery channels, on top of the most suitable payment platforms. We are creating an AppStore for Technology-Enabled Financial Inclusion.

Far-reaching User Impact

  • Local High-Quality Support

One of the biggest challenges our users face is getting access to high-quality local support at an affordable rate. Often the vendor is far-removed or if someone is there locally, support is too costly or the technology inadequate. Our aim is to have a certified partner in every region where a financial inclusion provider might be in need of service. Our platform gives partners the opportunity to reach these markets and the flexibility to localize the product to region-specific requirements and regulations.

  • Sustainable Social Businesses

Technology can only have its desired impact on financial inclusion if it is delivered sustainably to a userbase that recognizes and invests in the value it provides. Market-driven approaches are necessary to scale the reach of Mifos X. Our partner program and open source licensing create a cost-effective business opportunity for supporting financial inclusion through service delivery and solution development.  With access to a common and robust core platform, partners can add their own distinct valuable services and solutions as demanded by the local market, in a manner that is affordable to the user and sustainable for the partner.

  • Visibility and Presence in the Local Market

Partners are the direct channel to our users – they’re the champions of our platform promoting it to new markets.  They act as the eyes and ears of our customers, communicating back to the community what is needed, sharing the critical direct user feedback to help our platform grow and respond to the needs of the poor.

  • Local Job Creation

Many of our partners are small, young, entrepreneurial companies that are driven by our social mission and eager to give back to their local community. They employ numerous full-time employees skilled in IT – often these skilled individuals might move away to other cities to find work. The businesses and IT jobs our partners create through our platform have a direct impact on their broader community – locally-owned organizations and solutions that lessen the brain-drain. They achieve both a positive economic as well as social impact by channeling these skills towards fulfilling the unmet needs of the financial inclusion sector.

  • Channel of Financial Inclusion & ICT4D Experts

Our partners are not only equipped to deliver Mifos-related technology services. They are also capable of providing a full range of other complementary open source technology solutions that are vital part of the IT backbone for a financial institution. Services don’t stop at technology however, our partners are growing in their capacity as financial inclusion experts. They augment their technology support services with business process optimization, IT and strategic business consulting, social performance management, new product innovation, and other services to deliver responsible client-driven financial inclusion. We align with other organizations who can further train our partners and build them into a well-rounded channel of financial inclusion and ICT4D experts.
