Roadmap

Three major releases of Mifos along with 2-4 minor point releases are issued each year.  Features for each release are determined based on customer need and community input.  The list below is a product roadmap for future Mifos features.  Please see Previous Mifos Releases for information on past releases of Mifos.

2010 - 2011 Roadmap

Over the next twelve months we will make great progress towards our product vision of providing the industry a scalable technology platform delivering MFIs robust business and social performance intelligence.  Our next several releases will extend the platform at all levels - with increased reporting capabilities, brand new features, and underlying technology improvements to make our platform faster and easier to extend.  Review the roadmap and share your feedback about our product vision and the 2010 - 2011 Product Roadmap.  Our Technology Plan contains full details of the our engineering team's focus areas in advancing the platform over the next year.  

 

Current Release

Mifos 2.1 (Elsie F) - Variable Loan Installments, Early Fee Repayment, M-PESA Disbursals

Leila EOur current release is named Elsie F, code-named after a client at KMBI, Elsie Saldivar. Learn more about Elsie's inspirational story throughout her time as a KMBI borrower.  

  • Status: Released
  • Target Release Date: mid-March
  • Actual Release Date: March 9, 2011

The Elsie F release is scheduled to contain the following functionality:

  • Variable Loan Installments and Cash Flow comparison
    • Ability to create loans with variable installment periods 
    • Enter and compare client's cash flow with debt ratio and repayment capacity during loan creation
  • New interest rate type - Declining Balance with Interest Recalculation - Interest is recalculated based on when the client pays
  • Early and Partial Repayment of Fees - ability to pay off client fees before the next meeting
  • Improved M-PESA Integration - support for importing disbursals from M-PESA into Mifos
  • Permission for adjusting only last day’s backdated transactions
  • Conversion to service facades
  • Improved Tally accounting integration

Upcoming Releases

As part of our effort to live out our shared vision of 3 Billion Maries across our community, each upcoming Mifos release (post Gazelle C) will be code-named after one of these Maries - a microfinance client whose life has been improved through financial and economic opportunity, representing the rise from poverty of the nearly 3 billion who live on less than $2/day. This client will be chosen from a Mifos customer, whose technology needs are a focal point for that release.

Unscheduled Features

We recognize there is a growing list of features to go into Mifos as the product evolves to better support MFIs around the world.  View our feature train and our list of unscheduled features to see what has been requested thus far.  Based on customer need and feedback, over time these features will make their way into the product roadmap.

If you have additional feature requests or would like to show your support for one of these unscheduled features, do one of the following:

  • Suggest or vote for a feature or product improvement in our User Voice tool.
  • Log a formal enhancement/feature request in our Issue Tracker
  • Build the feature - Propose and discuss your feature request to the community; then build and contribute it according to our code submission process.
