Using the Wiki

An introduction to the Developer's Wiki - an open collaboration space for developers to communicate and share ideas.

What is the Developer's Wiki?

The Developer's Wiki is the place for developers to collaborate around ongoing features in development and technical improvements to Mifos.

In addition to the community mailing lists, this is where developers communicate the progress of features they are working on.  Feel free to share any personal tips, tools, or advice you have on making the Mifos coding process a smoother and more pleasant experience.

You can also utilize the Sandbox to create an initial draft of user documentation you would like to submit.  More formal user documentation to be published to mifos.org outside of the Developer's Wiki can be submitted according to the following documentation policy.

The more formal content accessible from the left-hand navigation on the Developers section of Mifos.org represents finalized and more static content that is targeted towards not only the existing members of the developer community but also first-time developers looking to learn more about contributing to the Mifos Initiative.

Editing content on the Wiki

Please refer to the Wiki Help Page for a guide on the syntax and markup used to edit content on the Developer's Wiki.  To maintain structure and organization across the Wiki, please ensure that once you've created your page it goes into the proper section of the hierarchy.

For example, if you've recently created a new "development project page" and need to place it within the "Development Project Pages" hierarchy:

  1. Create and save your page.
  2. From your newly created page, click backlinks.
  3. Within the reparenting box, type "Development Project Pages" and click reparent
    • Your page will now be within the proper hierarchy as a subtopic (child) of the parent page.

Receiving incoming RSS 2.0 feeds from the Wiki

All wiki pages publish an outgoing RSS 2.0 feed.  There are two different feeds you can subscribe to: recent new pages and recently edited pages.

Recent New Pages

The feed to view any recently created pages is:

http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/ANYPAGE/pages_rss

Please replace "ANYPAGE" with the level at which you'd like to see any new pages that have been created. For example to view any recently credited pages across the entire wiki, your feed would be:

http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/FrontPage/pages_rss

Likewise, to view any new created pages within the Development Project Pages topic, you would type:

http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/DevelopmentProjectPages/pages_rss

Recently Edited Pages

The logic for viewing a feed of any pages that have been recently edited is similar:

http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/ANYPAGE/changes_rss

Please replace "ANYPAGE" with the level at which you'd like to see any recently edited pages.  So the feed to view any recently edited pages across the entire wiki would be:

http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/FrontPage/changes_rss

Just simply paste these feed URLs into your NewsReader and you'll be able to stay up to date on all the latest postings to the Developer's Wiki.
