Inserting and Accessing Files on Mifos.org

Instructions and guidelines for downloading and uploading files to Mifos.org

Using the Resource Repository

All files and documents on Mifos.org are centrally located in the Resource Repository within the Knowledge Center at the following URL: www.mifos.org/knowledge/resources.  This is the central place to download or access files such as:

  • Case Studies, fact sheets or other marketing collateral to learn more about Mifos
  • Assessment tools like the GAP Analysis template to help prepare for a deployment
  • Status reports and documentation from ongoing deployments as they progress
  • Presentations and instructional materials from Mifos workshops

As the body of knowledge surrounding Mifos continues to grow, the Resource Repository will expand to include other resources such as training materials for potential Mifos Specialists.

Not only is the area where users must go to access files it's also where you will upload any resources that you are sharing with the Mifos community.  Each deployment has its own folder to store documents related to their ongoing Mifos implementation.

Please see below for instructions to assist you with:

Downloading a File

To download a file from the resource repository you simply must navigate amongst the folders to the file you are seeking to download.  First you must click the file name which will take you a to a subsequent window listing details of the file including a brief description, its type, and file size.  To download the file, click "Click here to get this file".  You will be prompted with a window asking whether you'd like to open or save the file.

Uploading a File

To add a file into the Resource Repository you must do the following:

(Please refrain from uploading files that are larger than 20mb at this point in time)

  • Name the file and also provide a description within the description field.
  • Click browse and locate the file to be uploaded from local machine.

  • Click save.

Now the file has been uploaded to the Resource Repository.  Users will be able to access it directly from the Repository or you can link to it from any page within Mifos using the following guide.

Insert a File into a Page

To add a file to a page there are two steps you must follow:

  1. Upload the file onto mifos.org (as previously outlined above)
  2. Insert a link to the file within your page.

Linking to the file within your page

Inserting you file in your page is just like inserting an internal link.  Let's go back to the test page we're creating and insert a link to our file, test file.

  • Let's make the following text link to test file, "Download our test file".
  • Type in "Download our test file." Highlight the text and click the insert internal link icon and then use the link drawer to browse to our file, test file, within the Resource Repository.

  • Click ok, save the page and now let's see what happens when we click the link.
  • When clicking the link we just created, the user is prompted to either open or save the file we uploaded:

And that is how you upload and link to a file within your page.

Adding Files through the Wiki

While files can be automatically uploaded through a WikiPage using the "upload a file" box at the bottom of the page, it's our goal to for all files to be uploaded and inserted into the resource repository so users can access them from a central location.

When inserting a file into a WikiPage please do it manually by first uploading the file as explained above.  From there one must simply insert an external link to the file using the linking syntax like they normally would.

For example, to link to the Gap Analysis Survey (located within the Resource Repository) from within a WikiPage, one would type:

`Link to Gap Analysis Survey <knowledge/resources/pre-deployment-evaluation/Gap_Analysis_Survey.xls>`_

and it would produce the following link:

Link to Gap Analysis Survey
