Mifos.org can handle many different types of content.

1   Content Types Displayable on Mifos.org

These content types can be processed and displayed directly on Mifos.org.

1.1   HTML

Some Mifos.org pages are in HTML format, like the documentation on the Mifos IRC channel. HTML allows for complex formatting and employs a "rich text" inline editor to make editing easier.

1.2   Wiki Markup

The wiki page you're reading right now is a wiki markup language called "reStructured Text". You can see this by

  • logging in
  • clicking on the "edit" tab
  • notice "type:" is set to "reStructured Text"

reStructured Text is a fairly straightforward and has many features. No "rich text" editor is required--when you login and click the "edit" tab, you are editing the plain text page source. See the HelpPage for more information.

Wiki markup is much simpler to write than HTML, but has less features and is less suited for complex content, such as tables. Some features are easier to use and maintain, however, like a table of contents and section numbering.

1.3   Images

Images can be JPG, PNG, or GIF binary data.

1.4   Plain Text

You are encouraged to write content for Mifos.org in either HTML or wiki markup. No need for plain text pages, for now.

2   Other Content Types

Some preexisting content may be in another format, such as an Excel spreadsheet or Word document. Mifos.org cannot display these content types, so they are simply presented to the user for download. For example, the Mifos user manual.
