IRC#mifos

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a chat room system used by many Free/Libre/Open Source Software projects. If you know about IRC, go directly to irc://freenode/#mifos, but if you don't, it is fairly simple to get going. All you need to do is install an IRC client!

IRC Clients

Chatzilla

Chatzilla is a simple and straightforward IRC client. It is a available as a Firefox plugin. If you don't have Firefox, install that first.

Pidgin

Pidgin is a feature-rich instant messaging client that can handle many protocols, including IRC. See this guide for tips on configuring Pidgin as your IRC client for #mifos.

Other hints

  1. Once you have your IRC client installed, just click on irc://freenode/#mifos and you should be signed on to the channel.
  2. Register your nickname. It helps people recognize you, protects your identity, and allows you to send private messages.
  3. If you find you don't like Pidgin or Chatzilla, there are many other options to choose from.
  4. If you want to share, for instance, a stack trace or diff more than a few lines long, use a pastebin.
  5. mifosbot is there to log channel activity. If you want mifosbot to ignore something, preface it with [nolog] (including the square brackets)

Planning Poker on IRC

The Mifos IRC chatroom is home to our ongoing Planning Poker sessions to estimate User Stories for development.
