Star Contributor of the Month – Dilpreet Singh

We are recognizing Dilpreet Singh, our recent 2017 GSOC intern who worked on our mobile banking app, as our latest Star Contributor of the Month. Dilpreet has become an anchor in our community of mobile developers starting with the exemplary he work during GSOC in which he went above and beyond the requirements of his project. Since GSOC has concluded, despite a busy schedule with university, Dilpreet has continued to actively work on our mobile banking app and we look forward to his presence and leadership in helping to guide continued innovation on our mobile banking apps and more across the community.

Dilpreet Singh – New Delhi, India

Brief Bio (in the words of Dilpreet):

I am a 4th year undergraduate student at Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology. I love to work on things that have a direct impact on people’s lives. I have been doing Android Development from around 2.5 years. I go to a lot of Hackathons and Meetups as there I get to interact with amazing developers and learn from them.

Relevant Skills & O.S. Experience: Android Development(Java and Kotlin), Python, Django and Flask.

Dilpreet’s Impact:

Discovering Mifos:

After the organisation list came out, I started looking for an organisation which matches my skill sets and works on something which directly impact people’s lives and Mifos was the best choice for me.

Contributions Made to Date: 

I have added new features to the Self Service Android i.e. Mobile Banking app and materialized complete application. I have also wrote documentation so that it becomes easier for new developers to contribute to Self Service app and also wrote unit tests in order to prevent breakage of any functionality during addition of a new feature or refactoring of code.

Current Projects: 

Currently I am working on Self Service app to make it release ready and will also be working on Android Client

Impact on the Poor: 

Making it easier and accessible for the poor to use the application.

What’s Rewarding about Working on Mifos:

It was a great experience working with Mifos. I got to learn a lot from my Mentors, Puneet, Rajan, Ishan and Ed. Mifos always appreciates your contribution which motivates me even more to work for the community.

Top Piece of Advice for Others in the Mifos Community:

Interaction is the key, if you want to get started with contributing to mifos or stuck somewhere just ask for help and then help others.
